Indoni SA is a Non-Profit Organization registered as such with the National Department of Social Department. The main objective of the organization is to bring about behavioural change amongst young people through identity directed programmes, hence address Social Ills and create social conscientization.

Founded by Dr. Y.N. Mthembu, Indoni SA was officially launched in June 2011. The programme was formulated as a direct response to various social ills faced by young people on a day to day basis including lack of respect, lack of bankable skills to allow people entrance to sustainable jobs, HIV and AIDS prevalence among young people and the impact thereof on their lives, drug and alcohol abuse, unemployment and teen pregnancies.

Indoni is a celebration of our culture and heritage, bringing together various cultures from across the country while showcasing the diversity and richness thereof through its various activities and functions. The reach tapestry of our culture and heritage is used as a tool for promoting tourism and economic activity through the hosting of various events and functions during the year leading up to the Indoni Festival in Durban during Heritage Month and October.

The word "Indoni" is a Nguni name for a specific kind of a berry fruit (black in colour) that grows along a lake or a river that gets very sweet when fully ripe. It is a kind of a berry through which the African people in the Southern hemisphere defined the beauty of their young women.

The fruit has only one seed which the African men defined as "united in beauty". They carried this as a legacy to not just respect and love their young women, but also to cherish and define their culture with pride. Accross the South African hemisphere vocabulary "Indoni yamanzi (the berry of the waters)" means "a beautiful young woman with respect, pride and dignity".
